Color can make or break a painting. Paintings are purchased sometimes more because of the color scheme than for the picture itself. When it comes to some abstract paintings, for example, that offer color and shapes or patterns only, color weighs heavily on its success. This is because there is a technique for chosing colors that compliment each other. So the choice of colors are just as important as the picture the artist paints.
For sometime, I have used mostly pastel colors, but I'm now leaning toward darker shades. This is because I want to make my work more powerful than many of my whimsical and floral paintings. From this time forward my color pallette is moving towards reds, dark blues, and more earthy colors.
